SUMMER SOLSTICE
RITUAL GUIDE
Friday June 21, 2024 is the Summer Solstice and a Full Strawberry Moon. Read on for rituals and ideas for harnessing your energy on this powerful day.
Friday June 21, 2024, is the Summer Solstice and Strawberry Full Moon.
The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year and has been celebrated for millennia by various cultures and people all over the world. For centuries, women have been a key component to this day, as we have created ritual and harnessed the fertile magic sitting around us on the Summer Solstice.
Historically, many of our most sacred sites were built to honor and align with the Summer Solstice. Examples includes Stonehenge - where the sun rises in alignment with the Heel Stone, and in Mexico - where Mayans constructed pyramids to align with the solstice. Throughout generations before us, various rituals have included fire ceremony to enhance the suns energy as a source of life, community gatherings to show gratitude for a successful harvest, and water rituals to signify rebirth and fertility.
June 21st is special because it is also a Strawberry Full Moon. This Full Moon is in Capricorn, inviting us to look at our greater purpose. This moon is asking us to show up in the world standing firmly in your TRUTH. Part of our life's work is to understand ourselves, who we are, and our values and intentions for this life. So with the sun beaming down on you during this astrological portal, we get to ask ourselves, who am I and what do I stand for?
Ritual Guide
Below are some invitations for you to create space for yourself, and loved ones, on this special day. We invite you to practice these rituals as we hold the deep belief, that when we do OUR work, it ripples to the masses through Universal Oneness. So creating healing space for yourself during these astrological portals, benefits the greater good of humanity around us.
Feel free to practice one, two, or all of the ritual ideas below! These are all designed for you to do alone, with friends, partners, or children.
#1 ALTAR
Creating altars are a beautiful way to honor the Summer Solstice. Below is a step-by-step guide, although there is no right or wrong way to create an altar. These are just some tips to inspire your own intution!
Find a flat surface. This can be outside in nature, on your back porch, or on a special table in your home.
Clean the space. This might be clearing any debris, sweeping, wiping down surfaces, or respectfully smudging with sage or palo santo.
Bring in the 4 Elements. In Curandera healing practices, it is essential to bring water, earth, fire, and air. This might be a bowl of water or vase of flowers, a small bowl of dirt, a candle, and your breathing.
Add anything that feels special. This is up to you! Examples might be a special piece of fabric, photos, jewelry, letters, crystals, objects, or anything else meaningful to you.
Altars are meant to anchor us, hold our prayers, and show gratitude to the earth and our higher power. Making them should feel special, precious, and beautiful.
#2 JOURNAL
Intentions about what you are calling in, and what you are releasing, are powerful ways to harness your energy on these potent occasions. We suggest two lists, of 1-10 things.
List #1: What are you releasing on this Full Moon?
I release…
I release…
I release…
List #2: What are you calling in with this Summer Solstice?
I am so happy and grateful that…
I am so happy and grateful that…
I am so happy and grateful that…
(the key here- is to write your manifestations as if they are already happening!)
Say your lists aloud, and always, ALWAYS, end with gratitude :)
#4 WATER RITUAL
Water holds energy, and is a tool for cleansing and rebirth. We invite you to take a bath, mindful shower, or jump into a body of water, with intention. This is a perfect time to say your intentions (from Ritual #3) again. Let the water wash away what is no longer serving you, and bathe you in all the intentions you set for yourself ahead.
#5 FIRE RITUAL
Let it burn, baby! We invite you to take your list (Ritual #3) of what you are releasing, say it aloud three times, and then watch that piece of paper burn in the fire. It can be a mega bonfire, a candle, or a kitchen stove. However we do recommend burning it outside, and watching the paper turn to ash and drift into the sky of the Full Strawberry Moon.
And celebrate! If being in community feels good, do it. If having a solo day is a better ritual, do that. Trust yourself, trust your inner knowing, and remember spirituality is simple. All of this should feel good, nourishing, and in flow.
Happy Summer Solstice!
